Why Italy?

Why Italy? 2017-10-10T12:08:38+02:00

Surprising as it may seem, Aterix and Obelix haven’t yet explored Italy! Only Rome itself has been visited by the Indomitable Gauls, first in 1964 (Asterix the Gladiator), then in 1972 (Asterix and the Laurel Wreath). But luckily there’s more to this magnificent country than its capital, and anyway, not all Italians are Romans – definitely not! Venetians, Umbrians, Etruscans, Oscans, Messapians, Apulians … the peninsula constitutes a plethora of peoples, and none them readily accepts Roman authority.

“There’s more to Italy than Caesar, Rome and its coliseum! We realised it was high time Asterix and Obelix had a clearer idea of what Italy was really like!”

Didier Conrad et Jean-Yves Ferri

Albert Uderzo could not have wished for anything better from the authors of the latest album: an adventure in the country where his parents were born.

On the menu for this 37th album: succulent and plentiful gastronomic delights, ravishing ancient monuments, and glorious countryside populated by very colourful characters.

Apparently, some of them might even remind you of well-known present-day personalities…
